Not familiar with podcasts? Although they might not be as popular as YouTube videos, podcasts are slowly making their way into people’s hearts. They are basically online, pre-recorded radio broadcasts with numerous themes and issues to choose from.
For millennials who aren’t that much into books and more likely to have a Kindle on hand or an Audible account, podcasts are definitely for you. Podcasts let you catch up on the news, pop culture events, games and much more.
Many apps are available for listening to podcasts, including the beloved iTunes and Spotify.
As a firm believer in podcasts, here is a list of my favorite podcasts to listen to in the morning, during traffic or whenever I'm feeling bored and uninspired:
Optimal Living Daily
This is a great self-help, motivational kind of podcast that could help boost your mood every morning. One episode is uploaded every day from the best parts of the best motivational/self-help books out there. You don’t need to read a whole book when somebody highlights and reads it for you.
It’s a great way to start the day.
NPR’s Pop Culture Happy Hour
Now this is a fun podcast to listen to while you’re stuck in traffic and sick of the same hit songs playing on every radio station.
Connect your phone to the car and start listening to a bunch of pop culture topics with NPR’s Pop Culture Happy Hour. They talk about the hippest events in pop culture and review the best movies playing at the moment.
Still Processing
For heavier topics, The New York Times’ Still Processing talks culture while highlighting both race and gender. Amid the rise of human rights movements, this is one of the best podcasts that focuses on such issues.
Hosted by Wesley Morris and Jenna Mortham, this podcast needs to be heard.
Girlboss Radio with Sophia Amoruso
The founder of Nastygal, author of the best-selling book Girlboss and creator of The Girlboss Rally, Sophia Amoruso decided to step into the podcast world to inspire more women by interviewing other successful women. Businesswomen to comedians and to musicians have been invited to talk about their success and how they got there. Amoruso is never shy about speaking her mind and promoting feminism in everything she does.
All in all, a great podcast for both men and women.
Modern Love: The Podcast
Another one by The New York Times and a personal favorite of mine to listen to at the end of a long day to unwind, here are a bunch of love stories narrated by amazing actors and actresses like Jake Gyllenhaal and Laura Dern. There are so many stories that you'll be able to relate to at least one of them.
This one might be a no-brainer: It'll definitely warm your heart. (kes)
