Personal development is something we should all do more of–though it tends to fall to the very bottom of my own to-do list!
That’s because, when you’re trying to grow your small business, take care of your family and household, and still make time for essential self-care, it can seem difficult to fit anything else in. What I’ve learned from my favorite time-management expert, Laura Vanderkam, however, is that there are always hidden pockets of time that you can access to do something that’s really important to you.
Hence–I multitask with podcasts.
I couldn’t be happier that audio has become such an essential part of our everyday lives–and there’s so much great (free!) content to access. Listening in, especially as I do other things, allows me to squeeze in personal development every day. I consider my transit, meal prep, and cleaning time to be real opportunities to learn about new topics, or simply get tapped into new perspectives from people with different world views.
While every female entrepreneur is motivated by something different, and podcast lovers all have varying tastes, these seven podcasts are sure to inspire and motivate you to reach your goal for the year ahead.
Amoruso’s podcast tops most “podcasts you must listen to this week/month/year” lists, and there’s good reason: The show will help you take your business, and your life, to the next level. Each episode, she interviews “women who’ve made their mark,” and I love that she highlights female entrepreneurs in particular. A product of her Girlboss empire, this podcast is a must-add to your 2019 listening list.
The Strategy Hour isn’t just a podcast but a brand. Abagail Pumphrey and Emylee Williams have their podcast, which comes out twice a week, but there’s more content on their website that’s designed to help you become a successful entrepreneur. Topics range from growing an audience online to productivity to “how to treat your passion like the real business it is.” Their goal is to help you become a “creative boss.”
Named a “top podcast to grow your business” by Inc.com, So Money, by Farnoosh Torabi, hosts the most candid and honest conversations about being an entrepreneur. Three times a week, Torabi talks money, business, and more with guests like Arianna Huffington and Tim Ferriss. The inspiration, and real talk, will help you succeed.
In 2012, Amanda Boleyan left the corporate world to start her own business, and now, on She Did It Her Way, she shares how you can do the same. From one female entrepreneur to another, Boleyan’s advice is honest and invaluable. Once a week, you’ll find new topics and experts on her podcast to help you kick start your business idea.
A podcast created for fitness enthusiasts, Hurdle‘s weekly episodes will give you a front-row seat to a conversation with some of the best entrepreneurs in the health and wellness space. Emily Abbate aims to bring talent onto the podcast who have used wellness (health, fitness, nutrition, etc.) to overcome a major “hurdle” in their lives. Each interview is emotionally charged, inspirational, and full of advice for anyone running, or trying to launch, their own business.
Jenna Kutcher serves up some real and critical advice for anyone looking to improve themselves–personally and professionally. Featuring guests ranging from Nastia Lukin to Amy Purdy, this twice-weekly podcast will give you insight into being an entrepreneur and growing your business (or brand) from the ground up. As a founding business owner myself, I find this podcast a good mix of content for both the new and seasoned professional.
Building a business requires more than learning about money, business logistics, and leadership. In order to be a successful entrepreneur, you need to take care of yourself (at Masthead Media, we make ourselves a priority, too!). Gretchen Rubin‘s podcast is all about happiness, self-improvement, and helping you balance the many aspects of life thrown your way.
