Feeling down about the commercialism of Christmas? That’s how Charlie Brown feels in “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” the third in a triumvirate of Peanuts holiday specials that have aired this season on PBS and its local GBH in Boston affiliate.
In this final outing, set for 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Charlie takes over as the director of the gang’s holiday play — but can he overcome his friends’ preference for dancing over acting, find the “perfect” tree and discover the true meaning of Christmas?

ANGELIC VOICES: The Worcester Children’s Chorus will appear with the New England Symphony Orchestra in the “Festive Baroque and Beyond” concert at Worcester’s Mechanics Hall at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Artistic director Pamela Mindell and associate director Philip Montgomery lead the chorus, whose mission is to enrich the lives of children, ages 8-18, by providing a quality musical experience through training in choral singing. Also appearing is soprano soloist Elaine Daiber. Mechanics Hall composer in residence Leonard Ciampa has composed a new piece for the concert. HOLIDAY ‘RING’: For the first time in 30 years over the holiday season, the Players Ring Theatre of Portsmouth, N.H., is producing a show for kids in addition to its traditional “A Christmas Carol.” Bring the kids to see “The Toymaker’s Apprentice” by Martin McGeachy at 10 a.m. Saturday and at noon Sunday. In the play, toymaker Gideon puts out a search for a new apprentice. Two children apply, but who has what it takes to win this position? The original story celebrates the value of hard work and the power of imagination. The 45-minute show is suitable for ages 3 and up.
